Dudley Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on March 19th, 2010 by admin

http://www.dudleymarealestate.com — Tour Dudley, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Dudley, Massachusetts is a rural, upland college town with two major rivers, the Quinebaug and the French. After King Philip’s War, in 1684, the Nipmuck Indians sold large tracts of land to colonists, and the town was populous enough to be incorporated in 1731. Dudley was the first town incorporated after the formation of Worcester County.

Dudley was at first perceived to be unsuited for agriculture, but the large number of ponds and reservoirs created in the 19th century provided ample water power for significant textile, manufacturing and industrial development. Along with its industrial base, and despite its reputation, Dudley maintained a large agricultural establishment, growing hay, grains and vegetables and raising sheep and cattle.

The introduction of woolen mills made Dudley an industrial force in the county and by 1832, broadcloth and satinet were being produced by residents and French Canadian and Irish immigrants. The town’s economy was dominated by the textile industry until the 20th century.

Modern Dudley still maintains remnants of its rural past in the poultry farms and dairy farms which produce milk, butter and cheese and vegetable and market gardens. Amesbury Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on March 13th, 2010 by admin

http://www.amesburymarealestate.com — Tour Amesbury, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Amesbury, Massachusetts is a suburban community with an unusual industrial and manufacturing history. First settled by Europeans in 1645, the town’s earliest industries included mills, shipyards and a heavily used ferry operation across the Merrimac River to Newburyport.

There were always scattered farms in the community, but unlike most Colonial settlements, agriculture was secondary to an aggressive maritime and industrial economy. By the 19th century, the shipbuilding, shipping and fishing industries which had employed most of the population gave way to textiles, ironworks, saw and grist mills that had been established on a 90′ drop of the Powow River, which provided crucial water power.

Among the most interesting of Amesbury’s products were the carriages, which achieved some renown in the area. The carriage company made the transition into the 20th century by converting its production into making automobile bodies, and until the Great Depression of 1929, auto body making was a major industry in the town.

The same handsome stone industrial buildings that once made nails and cloth are now filled with a diversity of manufactured products. The situation of Amesbury at a transportation crossroads of Interstate 95 and 495 gives the town a good competitive edge for both residential and commercial development. Along with the sturdy 19th century commercial buildings, Amesbury is also rich in Federal-period residences, lovingly preserved by the community as a reminder of its rich history. Lawrence Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on March 10th, 2010 by admin

http://www.lawrencemarealestate.com — Tour Lawrence, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Lawrence, Massachusetts is an old, urban, industrialized city whose history parallels that of the country as a whole. Originally a rural farming town, the city was transformed into a major industrial center when Boston entrepreneurs developed huge textile mills on the Merrimack River to use the power of its water falls.

The mill owners built canals, a dam and a reservoir, boarding houses and a machine shop for locomotives, creating one of the first industrial complexes in the country. Employees came first from other parts of New England to work in the mills; for the past 150 years, however, Lawrence has proudly served as an entry point to immigrants. By the turn of the century, Irish, Polish, Italian, Syrian and French-Canadians were following jobs to Lawrence and setting a standard of proud diversification for the city which is maintained to this day with newcomers from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Despite the huge technological changes over the years, the manufacture of textiles and of men’s and women’s clothing is still central to Lawrence’s economy; some of the finest names in apparel are made in the city. City planners are working to broaden the city’s industrial and business base and diversify. For other town tours visit http://www.virtualhomes.com . Boston Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on March 7th, 2010 by admin

http://www.bostonmarealestate.com — Tour Boston, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Boston, Massachusetts is an historic city of contrasts. Ancient red-brick sidewalks twist past handsome Federalist houses on the way to soaring glass towers housing state-of-the-art technology. The sports teams are the best loved and the most hated at one and the same time. Residents are fiercely protective of their neighborhoods and fiercely critical of the MBTA, the government and the weather.

In the harbors of Boston lie both the majestic U.S.S. Constitution, still commissioned to fight America’s battles, and scores of sleek white fiberglass pleasure boats. There are tiny restaurants tucked into rosy brick town houses on Beacon Hill and huge restaurants on the dizzying tops of skyscrapers in the downtown. Food ranges from the most radical of nouvelle chic to down-home Cajun.

Boston is a diverse modern city of neighborhoods (Allston, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Brighton, Charlestown, Chinatown, Dorchester, Downtown, East Boston, Fenway/Kenmore, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Mission Hill, North End, Roslindale, Roxbury, South Boston, South End, West Roxbury) from which it shows its diversity of populations, of languages, of foods and philosophies. Immigrants from every corner of the globe have been welcomed by the city and re-shaped into Americans whose memories and customs enrich the community.

Boston is a city where politics is everyone’s hobby but sports are taken very seriously; where you can hear six different languages in Filene’s Basement in one morning; where the world’s largest record store and the stately dome of the Mother Church of Christian Science are in the same neighborhood, and where gilded stone lions and a towering 60-story wedge of glass comfortably rub shoulders. http://www.chathammarealestate.com — Tour Chatham, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Chatham, Massachusetts was settled in 1665 by a group of Pilgrims whose surnames still dominate the town’s census list. Named for a town in Kent, England, Chatham was incorporated in 1712. Originally a farming community, its inhabitants found deep sea fishing more lucrative, and today small boat deep sea fishing is an important source of the town’s revenue.

Covering an area of approximately seventeen square miles, Chatham is a happy combination of past and present: old fashioned and picturesque, yet affording the best in modern facilities. Ayer Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on March 1st, 2010 by admin

http://www.ayermarealestate.com — Tour Ayer, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Ayer, Massachusetts developed around the railroad industry in the 1840’s, which remained the town’s primary economic force through the early 1900s. Railroad switching yards, tanneries and mills prospered as a result of railroad transportation in the area now comprising Ayer’s Central Business District.

Ayer is served by commuter rail service today and is centrally located near I-495, I-290 and Route 2. While Ayer is primarily residential, the close proximity to these major transportation links fueled industrial development throughout the town, which made the manufacturing industry the largest employers in the town in the 1980’s. However, by 1990, the service sector had become Ayer’s largest employer, followed closely by retail trade employment.

Commercial and retail activity continue to expand in Ayer. Today, the town of Ayer boasts numerous industries, a thriving historical downtown unique to the region and modern commuter rail service to Boston.
