Wilbraham, Massachusetts is a suburban community that offers its residents a beautiful rural setting with easy access to downtown Springfield. Through decades of sustained residential growth, Wilbraham has maintained a strong sense of community and has preserved large tracts of open space.

The town boasts several working farms, and each year hosts the Wilbraham Peach Festival, which celebrates the numerous fruit orchards that dot the landscape. The Wilbraham and Monson Academy, a private residential college preparatory school, maintains a large and stately campus in the center of town.

Wilbraham has long prided itself on its ability to plan growth and provide an excellent level of public service. The town features many beautiful residential neighborhoods and an outstanding public education system. Looking to the future, town officials are now focusing their efforts on the development of the Boston Road Commercial Corridor, which will allow Wilbraham to improve its commercial tax base and enhance community services.
Ipswich, Massachusetts is a coastal town in Essex County. Once a thriving mill town, Ipswich today is a culturally and economically diverse community. There are summer communities located on Great Neck, Little Neck and Argilla Road, mixed with year-round residences.

Founded in 1634, Ipswich has a rich and varied history and is distinguished by a large number of 17th and early 18th century homes. By the 1950s, the arrival of major highways and railways near Ipswich precipitated a suburban population boom; many residents still commute to Boston by train and automobile.

Among the many historical and recreational attractions in Ipswich are Crane Beach, Castle Hill, extensive salt marshes, and the Ipswich River. Two state forests and parks, three large tracts owned by religious orders and several large farms and estates in open space restrictive covenants provide a rural character to sections of the community. There are 12 churches representing a wide array of different faiths and numerous active social, civic and fraternal organizations. For other town tours visit http://www.virtualhomes.com .

http://www.miltonmarealestate.com — Tour Milton, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Milton, Massachusetts is an affluent suburban community between the Neponset River and the Blue Hills. Although the first English traders passed through Milton in the 1620’s, the earliest permanent settlement occurred in 1634 when colonists created an agricultural community growing barley, rye and Indian corn. A powder mill was built in 1674 and is thought to be the first of its kind in the colonies.

Boston investors, seeing the potential of the site and its proximity to the city, provided the capital to develop 18th century Milton as an important industrial site with an iron slitting mill, paper and sawmills and the first chocolate factory in New England in 1764. Benjamin Crahore began making pianos in 1800 in what is thought to be the first piano factory in the country.

Situated at the head of a tidewater, Milton became a commercial trading center where goods from the interior could be exchanged for West Indian imports. Prosperous Bostonians, including Governor Hutchinson, followed their investments and moved to Milton, creating an early estate district which grew side-by-side with 125 farms.

As Milton’s fortunes grew, immigrants arrived from Ireland, Nova Scotia and Scotland to work along the bustling harbor. Laying of streetcar lines fueled the rapid expansion of residential development and between 1870 and 1915 Milton grew into essentially the community it is now, a wealthy streetcar suburb with only some chocolates, biscuits and market produce to remind residents of the past.

By 1929 many of the big estates were broken up into subdivisions. Milton now retains a good many 19th century country houses and estates and early 19th century workers’ housing.
Revere, Massachusetts is a highly developed residential suburb. Sixty percent of Revere’s 4,054 acres is developed for industrial, commercial, residential and transportation uses; of this total, 70% is used for housing. Almost 900 acres are open water or wetlands.

The city lies within a short distance of all major urban amenities, including theaters, institutions of higher learning, museum and medical facilities. Convenient access is available to Logan Airport, downtown Boston, passenger and freight rail service, Routes 1,93, 128 and the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Revere is a more complex community than most towns of its size, owing to its multi-cultural and diverse population, its older residential neighborhoods and housing stock and the numerous specialized regional facilities within its borders. Revere Beach was the first public beach in the United States and is host to Suffolk Downs horse racing track and Wonderland dog racing track.

During the past decade, an extensive system of parks has been developed and improved. Revere offers several historical sites, including the home of Horatio Alger – born in Revere in 1832 and the author of 119 books – Ye Old Rumney Marsh Burial Grounds, Slades Mill, and Tuttle House, which was built in 1690.
Holyoke, Massachusetts is located along the Connecticut River, where the first of several dams was constructed in 1848 to take advantage of a 57-foot drop in the water level. The water power created by the dam was transferred to new industrial sites along 7.5 miles of hand dug canals.

At one point, more than 25 paper mills were in operation in Holyoke, annually producing the greatest tonnage of paper of any city in the world. Although only one company continues to manufacture paper, the dam, canals and much of the industrial and commercial architecture remain intact. Owing to the city’s excellent location at the junction of Routes I-90 and I-91, the reuse of many buildings has proved to be economically feasible.

The game of volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan at the Holyoke YMCA and the city is rightly claimed to be the “Birthplace of Volleyball.” Recreational attractions include the Volleyball Hall of Fame, the Wistariahurst Museum, the Children’s Museum, and Holyoke Heritage State Park, where the former Mt. Park Merry-Go-Round is permanently housed. The State Park also hosts “Celebrate Holyoke”, an annual three-day event which brings visitors from around the region to enjoy nationally known performers.
North Andover, Massachusetts is located in Essex County. The town lies along the banks of the Merrimack River and is surrounded by the towns of Methuen, Haverhill, Boxford, Andover, Middleton, North Reading and the City of Lawrence.

Settlers first arrived in 1640, and the town was incorporated as Andover in 1646. The community was split into the North Parish (now North Andover) and the South Parish (now Andover) in 1709; North Andover was incorporated as a separate entity in 1855.

The town has retained a rural character and features over 3,000 acres of preserved open space. Just off of Route 495, a major state highway, the community is easily accessible to New England’s major cities as well as the Atlantic Coast of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. North Andover is a thriving community with an excellent school system, efficient services and a strong commitment to its citizens. For other town tours visit http://www.virtualhomes.com .
Brockton, Massachusetts is a major urban community south of Boston with a rich industrial history. Brockton was the shoe manufacturing center of the region from the late 18th century through the 1950’s. In the Civil War, it was claimed that half of the Union Army wore boots made in Brockton and at the height of the shoe industry in 1929, more than 30,000 people were employed by shoe manufacturers in a city which dominated the world footwear market until after World War II.

The city was the site of pioneering in electrical power in 1883 when the third electric power station in the country was opened under the supervision of Thomas Edison, and in 1884 when Edison returned to witness the opening of the City Theater, the first in the world to be lighted from a central power station. The city was also the site of the first fire station to be electrically operated.

The community prides itself on its diversity; of populations, of interests and of facilities. Brockton hosts the Fuller Museum of Art, felt by residents to be one of the finest small museums in the country, as well as the Brockton Historical Society Complex with museums devoted to shoes, fire fighting artifacts and Thomas Edison.

Residents take special pride in their sports heroes, who include world heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano and middleweight champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler. William H. McGunnigle, less well-known but of great importance, was a Brockton resident credited with inventing the first baseball glove. For other town tours visit http://www.virtualhomes.com .
West Springfield, Massachusetts is Western Massachusetts’ second most populous town, with both surburban and rural features. West Springfield sits on the banks of the Connecticut River, which makes up its eastern boundary. The area was once rich farmland replenished by the annual flooding of the river.

Remnants of West Springfield’s illustrious past include the Town Common, the towering shade trees and historic buildings such as the Josiah Day House (circa 1754), believed to be the oldest structure of its kind in Massachusetts. The town’s biggest tourist attraction is the Eastern States Exposition, which hosts the state fair for the entire New England region in September. It is one of the nation’s largest agricultural fairs.

Storrowton Village, a recreated village of colonial America, is a permanent attraction on the “Big E” fairgrounds. The first Morgan Horse was bred in West Springfield and the Eastern States Horse Show is among the oldest in the country. West Springfield is also an emerging commercial center in the region.

Riverdale Street best exemplifies West Springfield’s success in supporting commercial development. Major retailers and warehouse outlets have located there along with the region’s largest complex of movie theatres. In West Springfield’s industrial areas, small and medium-sized manufacturers dominate. Citing its diversity of choices in housing, recreation, employment and shopping, most residents would attest that West Springfield is a wonderful place to work, play, and raise a family.
