Lawrence Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on March 10th, 2010 by admin

http://www.lawrencemarealestate.com — Tour Lawrence, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Lawrence, Massachusetts is an old, urban, industrialized city whose history parallels that of the country as a whole. Originally a rural farming town, the city was transformed into a major industrial center when Boston entrepreneurs developed huge textile mills on the Merrimack River to use the power of its water falls.

The mill owners built canals, a dam and a reservoir, boarding houses and a machine shop for locomotives, creating one of the first industrial complexes in the country. Employees came first from other parts of New England to work in the mills; for the past 150 years, however, Lawrence has proudly served as an entry point to immigrants. By the turn of the century, Irish, Polish, Italian, Syrian and French-Canadians were following jobs to Lawrence and setting a standard of proud diversification for the city which is maintained to this day with newcomers from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Despite the huge technological changes over the years, the manufacture of textiles and of men’s and women’s clothing is still central to Lawrence’s economy; some of the finest names in apparel are made in the city. City planners are working to broaden the city’s industrial and business base and diversify. For other town tours visit http://www.virtualhomes.com . Boston Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on March 7th, 2010 by admin

http://www.bostonmarealestate.com — Tour Boston, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Boston, Massachusetts is an historic city of contrasts. Ancient red-brick sidewalks twist past handsome Federalist houses on the way to soaring glass towers housing state-of-the-art technology. The sports teams are the best loved and the most hated at one and the same time. Residents are fiercely protective of their neighborhoods and fiercely critical of the MBTA, the government and the weather.

In the harbors of Boston lie both the majestic U.S.S. Constitution, still commissioned to fight America’s battles, and scores of sleek white fiberglass pleasure boats. There are tiny restaurants tucked into rosy brick town houses on Beacon Hill and huge restaurants on the dizzying tops of skyscrapers in the downtown. Food ranges from the most radical of nouvelle chic to down-home Cajun.

Boston is a diverse modern city of neighborhoods (Allston, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Brighton, Charlestown, Chinatown, Dorchester, Downtown, East Boston, Fenway/Kenmore, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Mission Hill, North End, Roslindale, Roxbury, South Boston, South End, West Roxbury) from which it shows its diversity of populations, of languages, of foods and philosophies. Immigrants from every corner of the globe have been welcomed by the city and re-shaped into Americans whose memories and customs enrich the community.

Boston is a city where politics is everyone’s hobby but sports are taken very seriously; where you can hear six different languages in Filene’s Basement in one morning; where the world’s largest record store and the stately dome of the Mother Church of Christian Science are in the same neighborhood, and where gilded stone lions and a towering 60-story wedge of glass comfortably rub shoulders. Chatham Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on March 4th, 2010 by admin

http://www.chathammarealestate.com — Tour Chatham, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Chatham, Massachusetts was settled in 1665 by a group of Pilgrims whose surnames still dominate the town’s census list. Named for a town in Kent, England, Chatham was incorporated in 1712. Originally a farming community, its inhabitants found deep sea fishing more lucrative, and today small boat deep sea fishing is an important source of the town’s revenue.

Chatham’s early prosperity would leave it with a considerable number of 18th century buildings, whose charm helped it develop into a popular summer resort. Covering an area of approximately seventeen square miles, Chatham is a happy combination of past and present: old fashioned and picturesque, yet affording the best in modern facilities. The citizens of Chatham enjoy the special benefits of forward-looking zoning and current planning, and of both public and private conservation efforts.
