Amherst, Massachusetts is located in the fertile and scenic Connecticut River Valley, and enjoys views of hills and mountains in all directions. Although originally a farming community, Amherst’s main industry is now education, since it is the home of the main campus of the University of Massachusetts as well as two private colleges, Amherst College and Hampshire College. The town’s commercial, social and cultural life benefit from the liveliness and diversity stimulated by the colleges and the University.

Amherst has long supported excellent public schools, libraries and town services. It has also worked hard both to preserve farming and open space and to provide affordable housing. Amherst is one of the few towns in Massachusetts to have met the state’s goal of having 10% of its housing stock affordable.

Amherst is one of the most livable towns in the country, encompassing big-city cultural flair and down-home charm. You’ll find everything here from grand Victorians to rambling Colonial Revival farmhouses, modern condominiums and comfortable family homes. For other town tours visit http://www.virtualhomes.com . Harvard Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

http://www.harvardmarealestate.com Tour Harvard, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Harvard, Massachusetts is a well-preserved rural community with an interesting history extending back to 1732, when it was first incorporated. Throughout its 250 years, Harvard has been known for a series of unusual sociological and religious experiments.

The most famous of these were carried out by Mother Ann Lee, who came to live in Harvard in 1781 and founded a Shaker village that still stands, and Bronson Alcott, who carried out a transcendental experiment living with his family and friends here in 1843. The farmhouse where the Alcotts lived was called Fruitlands and is now part of the Fruitlands Museum on Prospect Hill.

Harvard residents enjoy the intimacy of rural New England; annual events include the Fourth of July parade, Apple Blossom Festival and many others, the majority of which take place in the vicinity of the historic town common. Townspeople flock to Bare Hill Pond in the summer for swimming, sailing and canoeing and return in the winter for cross country skiing and skating.

With over 2,000 acres of conservation land, Harvard offers abundant walking trails and natural scenery for nature lovers and hikers alike. Acquisition of wetlands, especially along the Bowers Brook greenway, has also been a municipal priority. The school system in Harvard has the highest rating in Worcester County and is a major reason why many families with young children choose to live in Harvard. Seekonk Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on February 17th, 2010 by admin

http://www.seekonkmarealestate.com — Tour Seekonk, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Seekonk, Massachusetts is a suburban community on the Rhode Island border. Incorporated in 1812 from the western half of Rehoboth, Seekonk features rolling hills and unspoilt wetlands, with extensive swamp acreage in the central portions of the town. During King Philip’s War, settlers fled the Seekonk area and took refuge in several Garrison houses to the north and south. Historians speculate that the buildings in town suffered severe damage during the war; it was probably after 1676 that settlers began filtering back into Seekonk.

The community remained basically agricultural into the 20th century, although the Kent Manufacturing Company did make tennis racquets and croquet sets on the upper reaches of the Tenmile River. With the opening of the Providence and Taunton Street railway in 1891, Seekonk became increasingly a residential suburb of Providence.

Seekonk offers the virtues and values of small town living within easy reach of Boston, MA, Providence, RI, and the beaches of Cape Cod and Rhode Island. With a high quality of education and diverse cultural and recreational choices, Seekonk and its surrounding communities are ideal places to raise a family or locate a business. Easton Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on February 17th, 2010 by admin

http://www.eastonmarealestate.com — Tour Easton, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Easton, Massachusetts is a scenic suburban community in southeastern Massachusetts. First settled in 1694, the land now comprising Easton sat at the rough frontier of the Taunton North Purchase and acted as the hunting, fishing and lumbering preserve of early Taunton settlers. Easton was formally incorporated in 1725 amidst an impassioned controversy over the location of the town meeting house, which split the early community.

The town’s industrial history essentially begins with the discovery of bog iron, which made Easton part of an important late 17th and 18th century iron-producing region. The first commercial steel in the Colonies was said to have been made in Easton, evidently for use in muskets. In 1803, the Ames Shovel Company was established; the company later became nationally known for providing the shovels which laid the Union Pacific Railroad and opened the west. The Ames family not only shaped Easton’s economy but also its geography and architecture. In the late 19th century, the family created a remarkable legacy by donating several landmark buildings to the town. Nationally known architect H. H. Richardson designed Oakes Ames Memorial Hall, the library, and the Old Colony Railroad building, which now houses the Easton Historical Society, in the impressive Romanesque style. In addition, the Ames family estates effectively maintained large tracts of open space in the community. Residents take pride in Easton’s illustrious history. Despite its industrial base, Easton has managed to maintain much of its small-town ambience. For other town tours visit http://www.virtualhomes.com . Lynn Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour

Posted on February 8th, 2010 by admin

http://www.lynnmarealestate.com — Tour Lynn, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.

Lynn, Massachusetts was founded in 1629 by colonists from the New England Company. Farming was the cornerstone of the city’s economy in its formative years, but the establishment of an ironworks in 1643 ushered in an age of industry.

By the time of the Revolutionary War, several tanneries had sprung up along the city’s waterways, and after the MBTA was extended from Boston to Salem in 1837 the city established a factory district to promote growth in the shoe industry. The Civil War promoted further economic growth as factories sprouted throughout the city, and even the devastating fires of 1869 and 1889, which destroyed many of the factories, couldn’t stop Lynn’s rapid expansion.

At the same time, builders erected extravagant estates along the city’s shores, establishing Lynn as a major resort area outside of Boston. The construction of the Lynn Shore Drive high rise in 1910 provided vacationers with a bird’s-eye view of the area’s beautiful coastline. Today Lynn thrives as an urban center for manufacturing and commerce, and the increasingly diverse population takes pride in its city’s history.
